"June 2011...
Kai is a true master at the art of teaching. If you can't learn from him then you have a problem with multitasking.I would do all my training at Airmotive. I am planning on multi-engine and commercial here. Everyone at Airmotive makes you feel at home. Passed my checkride for IFR rating without problem. Highly recommended.

I went to Airmotive to train with Kai Brings after 11 months of frustrating training with a Part 141 school and still not getting my instrument rating. Kai got me certified in just four days. From start to finish it was a wonderful experience. I was warmly greeted by Airmotives staff. They arranged my hotel accommodations and even had a loaner car for me to get around in. What I liked most was that Kai did a skills assessment up front and tailored the 10 day course around my experience level. He also tailored the daily cost to best serve me financially. What I mean is that on days that it was most cost effective to do the daily flat rate that is what was charged, on days where it was most cost effective to go on the hourly instructor/plane fees that’s what was done. On a daily basis the staff at Airmotive inquired about my progress and you could tell they were genuinely interested in my progress and once my checkride was completed they all found the time to come by and personally congratulate me. The training that was offered was straight forward and realistic and, I feel, better prepared me for the real IFR world than all the previous training I received. I have already recommended this training to several other pilots seeking to achieve their instrument ratings and I hope this reaches many more pilots as well.

I recently received ten days of training from Kai to prepare for my ATP check ride . I live in Alaska and fly for a living. I fly around 700-1000 hrs a year , but almost exclusively VFR in a supercub. So it was important to have a knowledgeable instructor with real world IMC experience. I am a flight instructor myself and have received training from dozens of other instructors over the years. Kai is without a doubt the best instrument instructor I have ever worked with, not only is he 100 % dedicated & focused to a one on one format, but he also has a keen ability to patiently explain may complex procedures in a multitude of different ways if necessary, coupled with a great sense of how far to push a student for optimum results..I will gladly make the long trip back to Airmotive for continued instruction in the future.

I obtained my instrument rating with Airmotive in April 2009. In short, it was a great experience. Airmotive is among the best flight schools/FBOs in the country. Every staff member was friendly and devoted to their job. Logistically, things ran smoothly. I flew Mesaba into Brainerd and was greeted in the terminal by Airmotive staff. Courtesy van and hotel were fine and there are reasonable options for food near the hotel and in the Brainerd/Baxter area; there is also a restaurant in the airport for lunch. I rented a 1976 Cessna 172N from Airmotive for my training. In my opinion the aircraft is in good condition and flies well. It has a WAAS-certified Garmin 430. Instruction, provided exclusively by Kai, was top notch. Kai is organized and methodical; best of all, I think he tries to understand each student. I think what I appreciated most is that he pushed me to be the best pilot I could be. This really payed off since I ended up taking (and passing) my checkride in very windy/gusty conditions and left Brainerd with a good amount of confidence in my skills and in my ability to be a safe pilot. If I had to do it all again, I wouldn't change anything -- I would gladly return to Airmotive.

Kai,

I want to thank you again for the great experience I had with your training program. After almost 25 years of flying it seemed like I would never finish up my instrument rating. Every time I would get going with a local instructor he or she would leave for a different job or my business and family matters would intrude making it difficult to keep going. After sputtering along like this for several years it became apparent that if I was going to get this done I would need to do something different. Thats when I talked to Howard Eichorn who had completed his instrument course with you. He spoke highly of the structure of your course and your competence.
It was absolutely the way to go.

Getting away from home and business for 10 days, working with the same instructor and having unlimited access to a good simulator really made sense. The structure of the course was great. Every day we built on what I had learned the day before. Every evening I had specific reading and studying to do to prepare for the oral part of the check-ride. As you know I would often return to the airport to fly the simulator later in the evening...all of the line guys were great and extremely helpful in making sure I had access to the simulator in the evenings and in taking care of my airplane, including getting it inside when bad weather threatened.

The biggest thing though was that. in spite of the intensity of the course, you never let it get away from me. You sensed when we had worked enough on a particular item and were always encouraging. You insisted we take time off if I was getting frustrated and you were patient in explaining things (sometimes 10 or 12 times).

The course went great and the check-ride was almost anti-climatic. The examiner told me that he always enjoyed check-rides with your students because they were so well prepared.
Thanks again for the terrific experience. If anyone would like to contact me about it they can call my office during the day (218 326-0321) or my home in the evening (218 327-1380).

I recently received my instrument rating. Thanks to Kai and the always helpful staff at Airmotive. Kai is a very talented and knowledgeable instructor. His love for aviation and teaching was evident to me throughout my training, even taking phone calls at home to answer any questions I may have had. My schedule was very hectic while training, being that I am a full time student in Bemidji MN, and Kai was more than accommodating and helpful in getting me through the course in a manner that was fun and economical.

I look forward to working with Kai and the rest of the Airmotive staff for future pilot ratings.

Kai,

I would like to take this opportunity to say "THANK YOU" for the wonderful job of instructing you did in helping me attain my Instrument rating.  Additionally, I look forward to continuing to fly with you as I work to improve my instrument experience.

Kai, as I shared with you, I started my instrument training with another instructor and had an awful experience.  I was about ready to chuck it when Howard Eichorn recommended that I contact you.  I am so thankful that I did.
Your instruction style works!  Not only do I feel that I accomplished my goal of getting my instrument rating, but I also gained a friendship that I trust will last a lifetime.

Best of Luck in your continued instruction and please know that I would be honored to give you a recommendation at any time.

Respectfully,

David L. Cochran

I am a flight instructor and was recently hired as a First Officer for a leading Regional Airline.  I have trained with Kai Brings, for both my Instrument and Instrument Instructor certificates.  Kai is the most knowledgeable, skilled and professional instructor that I have trained with or worked with in my flying career.   Being from Minnesota, I wanted to obtain the best instrument instruction available so I could feel confident flying in our region, which is known for its frequent instrument conditions.  Kai is very efficient in his instruction and makes good use of simulators in his training to compliment flying in the aircraft.  This greatly enhanced my understanding of various procedures prior to performing them in the aircraft.  In fact, my first flight in the aircraft with Kai was in a snowstorm in actual instrument conditions.  Unlike many instructors, Kai is completely at home training in actual instrument conditions and this experience gave me the confidence necessary to fly "in the soup" on my own right after receiving my certificate.  As time passed I decided to obtain my Instrument Instructor certificate and Kai's encyclopedic knowledge of all aspects of instrument flight made him my first choice for this training as well. I would recommend Kai to anyone who is serious about seeking first class flight instruction that will prepare them for the real world of instrument flying. Sincerely, Chris Johnson

Kai is a true professional flight instructor, yet he makes learning a relaxed,  fun experience.  When I was a student pilot, he encouraged me when I lacked self confidence and motivated me to continue when it seemed as though  I couldn't grasp a concept or master a skill.   The safety of his students and airplane are his top priority.  He always made sure that I was both physically and mentally ready to fly prior to our lessons.  Ground school and actual flight lessons were done at my pace and Kai was extremely willing to adjust whenever possible to my schedule during my flight training.  Learning to fly has been a rewarding experience and as I continue to learn, Kai will be my instructor.       Rod  Damar,  Private Pilot with 90 hours

Kai:

As I've mentioned to you in the past , It was sure a pleasure to finish my instrument training with you in my 185. I had some time in with an old timer who just couldn't get thru my thick head what I needed to know, especially when it came to approaches. He taught me some good basic stuff and we parted friends, and still fly together some, but when I got with you it all came together quickly. I particularly enjoyed our rainy day class room sessions, with your explanations of weather , approaches , and priming for the oral part of check ride. I learned from you ,much about the Garmin 430, along with neat little tips like how to use the dot on the attitude indicator.  Your positive attitude about having me ready at a certain date, and scheduling the check ride when I doubted I'd be ready gave me a real desire to win and we made it! Thanks for helping me to get my license to learn. I'll be looking forward to some further instruction from you in the near future, because getting the rating is just the start, proficiency will be the next phase. It would be my pleasure to recommend your services to anyone.

Best Personal Regards,
Howie Eichorn

To whom it may concern,

It is my privilege to write a letter of recommendation for Kai Brings. Several years ago while looking for a 7 or 10 day accelerated instrument rating program, I was fortunate enough to meet Kai. While I felt adequately prepared upon arrival to the flight school, I was not sure any instructor could have a person trained for the practical test in 10 days.

Through concentrated training in the simulator, airplane and ground instruction, he had me done in only 6 days! I had to wait almost as long for the appointment with the examiner due to weather!

Kai is a skilled motivator and trainer. He doesn't just train you for the check ride either, he makes sure you understand the “real world” implications of your decisions and actions. I have returned to Kai for additional ratings since then and have never been disappointed.

I have not met very many people with the passion for aviation that Kai has, and he comes armed with the expertise and people skills necessary as well. I believe Kai to be one of the finest flight instructors in the industry!
