Private & Commercial Pilot Oral Study Guide
 
Purpose
This Oral Study Guide is a structured, scenario-based system designed to prepare Private and Commercial Pilot applicants to perform at the level expected by an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE).
 
Overview
Built around real-world scenarios and Federal Aviation Administration ACS standards, this guide focuses on application—not memorization.
Applicants will learn to:
• Answer DPE-style questions with confidence and clarity
• Apply regulations, procedures, and aeronautical concepts to real-world situations
• Demonstrate strong Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM) and risk management
• Explain key topics clearly at both Private and Commercial levels
• Understand the “why,” not just the “what,” behind decisions
 
Training Focus
• Scenario-based oral questioning (just like a real checkride)
• Preflight planning, weather, airspace, and regulations
• Aircraft systems, performance, and limitations
• Navigation, communication, and situational awareness
• Abnormal and emergency decision-making
 
Goal
Develop pilots who can think critically, communicate clearly, and confidently handle a full oral exam at both the Private and Commercial level.
